Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
I have to say, we got this carrier as a gift and I was SO excited! Even now I am sad it didn't work out. It all started when I first put the carrier on. I have a smallish waistline- but it is not miniscule. The waist belt is simply too big. So my husband put it on, and it was very uncomfortable. [...]

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
I tried them all in the store and this one was by far the most comfortable. The others all had metal frames that could be felt through the pack. The only problem with this one is that there is no way to get the hood into the right place without the straps being on baby's face.

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
We have owned this pack for four years. It has held up really well, it's seen a lot of use,I even ran it over with the car and it is still in great shape. The child carrier could be a little improved (when they fall asleep it is difficult for them to rest their head anywhere), but it is very comfortable for the parent even on long, multi-day trips. The storage compartments are great. We have used it for our boys when they were tiny and still put our four-year-old 40 pound son in it with no problems. overall, great product.

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
This pack has a lot of bells and whistles, looks great (always get compliments) however some key elements need improvement.
First of all, before kids I would regularly backpack 6-10 trips a year and hike another 15-20 weekends, primarily in the Tahoe Sierras and Eastern Sierras.
Our daughter turned 6mo in May of 2007 and for that season my wife and I did 15 hikes between May and October, all 6-10 miles w/ 1000-3000' gain. This was the golden period for hiking with our child (but I assume most parents have this opinion).
Last summer, when my daughter turned 18mo., the deficiencies of the pack began to show. The hip belt is way to small to hold the advertised weight for an extended period of time and after long hikes my hips would be bruised. Subsequently, we probably only did 6-7 hikes.
This summer, with my daughter 2 1/2 yrs and 30-35lbs the hip belt is maxed out. Yesterday, I did a 4hr hike that is fairly tame however my hips were blistered at the end. However, with my daughter, the pack, water, food and clothes I probably had 50lbs total. I would say 5 more lbs. is all I cold feasibly take before the pool becomes more attractive then the mountains.
The other deficiency (and I've read Kelty's have this same problem) is that I can't get the weight distributed far enough forward unless I tighten down the shoulder straps soo much such that too much is weighted on my shoulders.
Some other comments: the hood is nice, but only protects my daughter from the sun when its overhead or behind her, the stirrups are great, and there is ample space for clothes, diapers, food and a small but usable sleeve I put my camelpack in.
For the 6-12mo old infant this pack is great, but that's it (at least for moderate to difficult hikes).

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
Our daughter, Alex, is now 13 months old. We started with an Evenflo backpack carrier. It was great until she started growing and then we noticed the straps cut into our shoulders. So we decided to upgrade. We had great hopes for this pack. But have decided to purchase the Deuter II.
We took this pack with us to the Smokies and went on a 4+ mile hike. I usually carry the baby pack and my husband carries the gear pack. I am 5'1". First I will discuss the issues I had with the pack then the issue that presented itself for my daughter.
I was happy to see that I could adjust the pack to fit my short torso. After wearing it, I found that I did not like the way the waist belt attached. In my backpacking pack, the waist belt is secured to the frame of the pack. In this pack, the belt is secured by Velcro to a "pouch" that is attached to the pack. The pack sags below this "pouch" and your hips bear very little of its weight so you endure a lot of pressure on the shoulders.
I found this pack to be very top heavy. She sat very high in the pack and away from my body which caused every move Alex made to feel exaggerated to me. My one pro about this pack is that the straps are very well constructed.
Additionally, this pack is very bulky. We used our old one as her primary means of transportation even above our strollers. With this Sherpani pack, I found that I was running into things while shopping in the tight little tourist shops.
My final complaint is that my daughter nearly poked her eye out in the pack. The frame is constructed with the top of the two support columns protruding out the area where the child seat attaches to the pack shoulder straps (see photo). Alex fell asleep during our hike. She was snuggled into the pack nicely so I was not worried about her falling out. There is no forward head support for this pack so when her head fell forward, she woke up screaming because one of the pack support columns rammed into her forehead just above her eye.
Needless to say, I would not recommend this pack.

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
We have two daughters so this has seen it's fair share of use. We have taken it to the various fests in town, and really it's light and comfortable enough for me to use (not just my husband)! It's well made and the compartments are great for random things that need a place to go. Our older daughter is 4 and she can still ride in this. We have loaned it to friends for camping and hiking excursions, and everyone has been happy with it. Yes, I would totally recommend this product to others!

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
I love this bag. I have 3 other girls so I have been through 2 other brands, and this bag is my favorite. It is light enough to take around during the day for a hike, or just to take a stroll around the neighborhood to run errands. It has extra space so I can also pack my items, and most importantly, I feel that my little girl is SAFE and comfortable. Oh, I LOVE the rain/shade/sun top; I never worry about the elements whether rain or extra shine!!

Comments about Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier:
This is a great investment. We have used this with all three of our children. I love the 5 point harness, for safety reasons. I love the comfort and easy of getting it on and off. We have found that it works just as well with our 7 month old as it does with our older children. The rain/shade cover is awesome and has come in handy when weather suddenly changes, and when my daughters have a hard time with a sunny day. I love this carrier and have given it as a shower gift twice.
