Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Cross-Training Shoes - Men's:
I used these boots while hiking the John Muir trail - 200+ miles, ~10 miles/day, 22 days, 35lb pack.
I bought these shoes because they were lightweight, appeared to have a very sturdy sole, and because the initial fit was excellent. I wore them constantly for about two weeks before hitting the trail.
However, after several days on the trail I developed blisters on both heels. The culprit was the seam between the ankle cuff and the heel cup. This seam occurs about 1/3 of the way down the heel cup. My heel bone actually abraded through the fabric at the seam. The fix involved Bandaid/Compeed blister patches on my heel (great product!) and field installing a moleskin heel cup liner liner.
In addition to the ill advised heel cup seam, these boots stank, literally. I've owned lots of boots and do most of my hiking in the Pacific NW where keeping the interior of your boots dry can be a challenge. I have never had a pair of boots that grew mold/fungus/boot_rot like these did. The odor was pretty bad. The culprit here is the ticking in the sole below the footbed. It picked up moisture and became streaked with black. Mind you, this in the Sierra Nevadas where everything dried in minutes.
Once I got the heel cups sorted out and accepted my social pariah status I found the boots performed well, providing very good traction and good protection from sharp rocks. But still, I'm betting there is a better lightweight hiker out there for me, and these are going in the trash cause I'm tired of raised eyebrows and and people moving away from me to escape the odor.

From the minute I put these on, these were perfect. On trails they have brilliant traction and stability.
