Comments about REI Liberty Ridge Mittens - Men's:
I use the mittens for downhill skiing. I have owned them for 1 year, so this is my second ski season.
The mittens are well constructed and not overly bulky, so they seem very appropriate for skiing. They come up over your wrist and have a drawstring preventing cold and/or snow from getting into the mittens.
The serious drawback with the mittens is that the liners rapidly become saturated with water and then your hands become cold. I experienced this last year and again this year. Recently on a very cold day skiing I went inside after only three easy runs and found the liners completely soaked and ice forming between the liner and the shell. A friend who has the same mittens and was with me has had exactly the same experience. It appears to me that the shells do not breath and that water vapor condenses against the inside of the shell causing the liners to get wet. This is a fatal design problem for these mittens. I intend to replace them.

Comments about REI Liberty Ridge Mittens - Men's:
I purchased these for an upcoming trip to summit Rainier but have used them for snow tubing for a few hours in single digit temps, and these preformed great. I usually get very cold and numb hand very easily but for eth entire time my hands stayed warm and dry even with high wind speeds and blowing snow. I normally fit a med size glove snug and purchased these in a large to allow for extra room and potentially a heat pack or additional liner and fit then is great.
