Comments about Big Agnes Pine Island 4 Tent:
I got this tent as a size upgrade over my 2 man North Face Harrier tent (now with 2 people and 2 dogs there was no chance of us fitting in a 2 man). I was in the market for a large 3 man/smaller 4 man tent that was able to be used for weekend backpacking trips. This tent stood out because of it's size and lighter weight (only 2lbs more than my North Face!). The tent pitches beautifully, I love their pole/hub system. The tent is large and roomy for our 2+2 setup, and I think you could actually sleep 3 people and 2 large dogs just fine! The fly is nice and doesn't rest up against the inner tent walls like our North Face would (which would cause major condensation). It breathes beautifully and we've had no condensation problems. The big vestibule is amazing. It's huge and well designed. A TON of room in there. Also, they have big pockets covering the entire length of 2 sides of the tent, which is great! About time to offer up more than just 1-2 pockets.
Now, the negatives:
The floor could be made sturdier. They just used the basic windbreaker caliber nylon for floors, and after just 2 nights of sleeping in it with our 2 large dogs there are several small claw holes that are visible and could be a problem long-term. If you don't have dogs this tent would be a 5*. If you do you may want to reconsider... The only other complaint is that it is quite large, larger than I would have thought. It's very long with the 2 vestibules extended so I'm thinking that it's going to be hard to find an open spot big enough once I really get out in the woods. It is fairly light, but they put it in that briefcase style bag with handles on the top, which is very nice for Car Camping, but is going to present an interesting challenge next weekend when I take it out backpacking for the first time.

Comments about Big Agnes Pine Island 4 Tent:
The wife and I were looking for a tent for motorcycle travel/camping. We had been avid backpackers where weight and size were critical but weather protection was also an important consideration. For our new application weather protection was still a high priority but weight was not a big issue since the tent would be packed on a motorcycle. We were at a motorcycle rally when we saw a display with the Pine Island 4 setup. We immediately fell for it. Incredible room for two plus our motorcycle gear. The front entrance vestibule is very large allowing for storage of riding gear and other motor gear. The rear entrance vestibule allowed for secondary storage. Interior space for two was heaven after years of two person backpacking tents.
We did ten nights of camping in hot to windy to wet weather. There were no issues with the tent.
It sets up and takes down easily.
Everything fits into the included 'suitcase' so every item has its place and is easily located for setup.
I wouldn't use it for backpacking for two people due to it's size and weight as a smaller lightweight tent would be more appropriate for me. But it works great for car/motorcycle camping.
Lots of neat features like storage pockets along the full length of each side of the tent.
Additional purchase for us was the footprint and the loft.

Comments about Big Agnes Pine Island 4 Tent:
Looking for a 4 person all rounder tent that works great for families, definitely check out the Pine Island. We use this tent for backpacking, canoeing, sea kayaking and car camping with our 2 kids and we love it. We've used a lot of 4 person tents over the years and the Pine Island is by far the best. The tent is very spacious (nearly vertical walls), light (9 lbs), has 2 vestibules, great air circulation (lots of mesh), and easy set up. Our favorite features are the continuous mesh pockets on the side walls (great for organizing the family stuff), the large front vestibule (porch), the bright colors for those rainy days, and lots of guyout points/cords to make it bombproof in windy conditions. The briefcase storage bag seems a bit wierd if you're used to longer tent pole sections and cylindrical stuff sacks, but the briefcase bag actually works quite well and gives you more packing flexibility. With two large vestibules the tent takes up quite a bit of real estate so don't expect to fit into tight tent sites. Being tentbound due to buggy/rainy conditions is actually pleasant in the Pine Island. While there are 4 person backpacking tents that weigh a pound less, the Pine Island is so much more comfortable and better designed for families that it's a no brainer.

Comments about Big Agnes Pine Island 4 Tent:
Back from my beach camping trip ... incredible. Pine Island 4 tent made my adventure magical. Kept rain fly off most of time as the stars were brilliant. Used fly only when I desired more privacy. Tent comes with 15 simple aluminum stakes. I purchased 4 more rigid stakes and this made all the difference in hard ground conditions. I would suggest having at least six. Tailored footprint didn't fit precisely and needed to use additional stakes to secure it. There were numerous campers ~ I definitely had the sweetest condo! Dual doors and size is phenomenal. Even had room for my surf board and gear inside. What a blast! Mahalo nui loa to Big Agnes and REI!

Comments about Big Agnes Pine Island 4 Tent:
This is my second tent. First one arrived with minor manufacturing defect.[...]Practiced set up with first one couple times; set up second one under more realistic conditions. Set up is easy. Stake corners, shock-corded poles fall into place, clip tent to poles. Done! Quality is better than expected; roomy and well-designed. Zippers flow nicely. Large dual doors make entry/exit easy. I'm 6'5" and fit nicely. Leave this weekend for Kaua'i so will get beach as well as rain experience. Haven't tested for waterproofing yet, but seams are tight and sealed. Rainfly is well designed. Did have minor trouble by myself trying to thread fly pole through sleeve. Would be a breeze for two, but somewhat tricky for one in wind if you don't want to puncture fabric. Practice before departing. Can't wait to sleep under stars next to the Pacific ocean.
