Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

The bag is comfortable and stows easily. The hood is not so big it swollows your head, there is more than enough foot room, and with my 6'2 frame fitting in this L bag was easy with no hold ups. The zippers hold up nicely, no breezes get in anywhere. Throw a few shirts in the stuff sack and you get a pillow. Perfect.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

The best thing about this bag is that you really don't notice it. It just does its job without complaining. I have an earlier model with Polarguard Delta fill, not Climashield, but the new fill can only be an improvement! The glow-in-the-dark zipper actually works (a surprise) as long as you lay out the bag an hour or two before the sun sets (in the tent is fine).

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

I used this bag for the first time off the west shore of the Rappahannock and the Chesapeake Bay in February. The day’s high were +34F and the two nights lows went down to +15F. I used a Kelty liner that states it adds 5-10 degrees 'F' of insulation to your bag. All in all, I was using approximately a rated +15F sleeping bag system. In addition, I was using a therm-a-rest prolite4 sleeping pad and I started out wearing a set of full thermal long johns with REI wool socks and an under armor balaclava. After about an hour and a half I was thoroughly chilled. But, for the most part my head, torso, and upper legs were adequate; however, my feet were ice cubes. I then changed into a set of polypropylene long johns with turtle neck, kept the balaclava, and added another pair of socks, and stuffed a sweatshirt down at my feet. The rest of the night my upper body was warm, but the feet remained frozen. This made for an overall miserable night. While I luv TNF gear, I was very disappointed that this bag fell so short in the foot area. At those temps I would have expected to be somewhat chilled in this bag, but not like that in the feet with all I was wearing. The draft tube next to the zipper does work very well; a few times when I had lifted it you could really tell the temperature difference. Overall, it appears to be quality construction and material. However, I can only recommend this bag if you don't use it below +30F and with a very warm pair of socks at that. I'm now eyeing TNF Snowshoe rated at 0F to cover my cold weather needs for here in VA.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

I've used this bag on several backpacking trips in relatively warm weather (greater than 50 degrees Fahrenheit) and I've been very pleased with the comfort of the bag. I'm 6'2" and 205#, and the bag fits me perfectly. Not too big, not too small. I have yet to use the bag in cold situations, so I can't speak to the performance in those conditions, but I can say that I've never felt hot in this bag. So far I'd say it would fit the bill as a good 3-season bag. It has gotten damp several times and I was impressed with it's performance even under damp conditions. It seems to be fairly durable so far as well. Just be sure to remove it from the compression sack when it's in storage. After a week-long backpacking trip I noticed that it had lost much of it's loft from being stuffed in the compression sack. It did eventually regain most of its loft once I kept it in the storage bag for a few weeks after that trip.

I've used mummy bags that had poor hood designs, and although I haven't had to rely on the hood of this bag for warmth yet, I can say that I didn't find it annoying as I have with certain other bags. By that, I mean it doesn't have any annoying straps, or lumpy string channels to bother me if chose to sleep on the hood instead of strapping my head into it.

The zipper seems to be top notch as well. I haven't snagged it once. The bag material seems to stay out of the zipper pretty well even if you're not super careful when you're zipping it up, which is great for those times when you have to get back into the bag in the middle of the night half asleep. I would give this bag a 5-star rating if it had a zipper on the foot portion. My feet tend to be my body's thermostat, and on warm nights I'd like to be able to hang my feet outside the bag while having the rest of the bag zipped up.

The bag cleans up nicely as well. I haven't washed it in a machine yet, but liquid spills and dirt wipe off the shiny surface easily.

If I had to make a complaint, I'd say that it is very difficult to fit into the stuff sack, especially the first few times. Difficult, but not impossible. Honestly, I broke a sweat in my living room trying to get it into the compression sack for the first time. It took me probably about 5 minutes. I was starting to think that they had given me the wrong size. I eventually got it to work by rolling it up tightly, then getting as much of one end in the bag as I could and then cramming the inner layers into the sack kind of like pressing on the middle of a cinnamon bun.

It may be a wee bit heavy for ultra-lighters, but overall a very good value for the money!

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

Great product. Zipper never snags, great size for stuffing into the sometimes too-small woman's frame pack sleeping bag section. Stuffing stays even throughout bag, hood is ideal for stuffing clothing into for a pillow or for cinching around face in cold conditions.
Only con I've found is that it's not quite a 20 degree bag. I used it in 39 degree nights and been uncomfortably cold - no matter how many or few layers i was wearing. Though a lightweight synthetic liner fixes this problem easily.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

I bought this bag because of 20 degree rating and great price. I used it on a back pack trip to dead fall lakes near mt Shasta in july. Night time temp was in the fourties and I was quite comfortable. I went to Yosemite in Oct 1st. We were at about 8600 elevation. The first night It was around 32 degrees out cause my friend who was sleeping under the stars, his water bottle half froze. I was in my tent/no frozen bottle there just my toes and a couple of times in the night I woke with a chill shivering. I was wearing long underware and warm socks, The next night the temp was colder. I wore everything I had ,two tee shirts, down jacket, long underware, jeans, hat, two pairs of socks. It snowed or sleeted lightly at about four in the morning.with all the clothes on I was still not really warm but not freezing. This bag is comfortable and well made and a good price but not that warm. If you need to be warm at the rating of this bag then I would not recomend.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

This is the older model I got on sale last year as NF upgraded the Cat's Meow. I was looking for a synthetic model to complement the down bags I have. I am used to a 15 - 20 degree rating, but found that this bag is not warm enough. Camping 4 nights in Tuolumne over 4th of July I kept adding clothing layers night after night to finally stay warm. Lows were in the high-30s which are common for 8,500ft & I expected to be warm with wool underwear tops and bottoms, but had to add my hiking pants along with a driclime jacket to stay warm.

I've spent many nights in the Sierras with 15-20 degree bags and this ain't one...

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

Good bag for the money. Definitely a value. Relatively light weight. Used on 3 week AT section hike in October. Generally stayed warm on chilly/windy nights but not too hot on slightly warmer nights with minimal clothing and bag unzipped. Downside is stuffed size, which is to be expected with a synthetic fill...I was never able to get it into the compression sack provided. I had a lot of trouble with the zipper hanging--especially when trying to unzip when in the bag--and the hood drawstring is a bit of a hassle. Next time I would definitely spend more and go with down.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

I bought this bag at the scratch and dent sale and I got a great deal. However, if I had purchased it and could return it, I would. This bag isn't nearly as warm as it looks. I tested it out on my first camping trip and was very cold despite probably over doing it with numerous layers. The weather was in the high 30's. I tried it again with a bag liner and I was comfortable my second trip. However, I probably spent more on the liner than the bag itself. The zipper also snags easily and it's simply not as comfortable as other bags i've tried (e.g. Marmot). It is hardly a 3 season bag and I was unpleasantly surprised.

Comments about The North Face Cat's Meow +20 Sleeping Bag - Long:

I took this sleeping on the JMT in June and loved it. I am 6 foot 6 with a slim frame and was very comfortable. It kept me warm every night. The hood is very adjustable however on very cold nights the cold air would still hit my face. I solved this problem by covering my face with a buff, a baclava would also be an excellent choice. This bag packs easily and for being synthetic and rated for 20 degrees is one of the lightest you will find.
