Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Cross-Training Shoes - Kids':
My son has these in three different sizes. He has pretty regular sized feet, maybe more to the narrow size than wide. These shoes are built like an adult size running or cross training shoe. Merrell got a kid shoe right. They didn't skimp just because kids don't know any better. These have great arch support and are ligthweight. They fit the heel well. They don't stretch out either. And, they're easy to put on. Any other shoes, even the more expensive ones, make my son's feet hurt. All my boys will wear Merrells from here on out. Also, they wear well. I might even be able to get a pair through a couple of kids.

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Cross-Training Shoes - Kids':
My son wears these Merrells everyday. He will not wear another shoe! Five mornings a week at preschool and lots of boy fun in the mountains make this shoe tops! It still looks brand new after 7 months and he doesn't want a new pair EVER! We had two pairs of Merrells before this and these have been the best by far! Buy these, you won't be disappointed.

The elastic strap was cut by the plastic O ring within weeks. I like that my 6yo was able to put the shoes on by himself, but shoes should last longer than that!

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Cross-Training Shoes - Kids':
I'm an adult, but have found that boys' shoes frequently fit better and last longer than women's shoes. I've been especially happy with Merrell. Their shoes tend to fit well, provide good arch support and last a long time, even with daily use in a variety of conditions. However, their best shoe, the Mesa Ventilator for kids, was discontinued. The Moab looks similar but is an inferior replacement.
First and most significantly, it doesn't breathe nearly as well. My feet never got hot in the Mesa. Second, it has a less rugged, cheaper appearance. The leather strapping has a single row of stitching as opposed to the Mesa's double stitch. The toe bumper is less than half as wide as the Mesa's was. The tongue opening extends further down the length of the shoe, which seems to affect the fit. And the loop at the back sticks up and tickles my Achilles tendon, which I find annoying. (The Mesa had a loop that lay horizontally.)
At least the great Merrell soles appear to be exactly the same, and the shoes are long lasting. I'd only recommend them with some reservations...to someone who liked a warmer shoe and disliked laces. They may be better than similarly priced shoes currently on the market, but the Mesas were a far better value. I hope Merrell brings them back.
Service and delivery comments:
REI customer service was very helpful, as always. They also sold me a great pair of waterproof hiking boots at the same time.

I have twin first grade boys. One uses these shoes as his day to day shoes. They have last seven months which is great. (I have put some "shoe goo,"[...], on the sole and the toe to keep them going). The shoes are now ready to be tossed.

I have bought these shoes for the past 3 years....each time my daughter grows out of them. They keep her feet cool and provide the traction and stability when ever and where ever she needs them. I have yet to find a better pair of shoes that are as versitile as these. (I even have her wear them in the rain and they still work great.)

My son keeps wanting these shoes when he grows out of a size. I'm happy to get them because they hold up. I've had many shoes in which the closure wears out or the shoe itself. These have held up twice, we are on the third pair.

Comments about Merrell Moab Ventilator Cross-Training Shoes - Kids':
I bought these for my active 4 year old who was going through cheaper shoes so quickly I decided more expensive would be more durable and therefore worth the extra cost. I love the Merrell brand and the velcro strap looked nice so my son could put the shoes on himself. He ripped the end off the strap in about 4 months time. The rest of the shoe looked brand new. Too bad the strap didn't last. I will definitely buy Merrell again this fall/winter but will try the bungee style laces.
