Comments about High Sierra Long Trail 90 Pack - Special Buy:
High Sierra Long versus any Gregory pack. The high Sierra is great in the extreme hiking situations. It surpassed any of my Gregory backpacks. I first tested this back on now Mt Washington -15 degrees with Hale and freezing rain it never absorbed any wetness. The side pockets are great for your quick needed items. Lots of room for tents and medical supplies. It's been to the West Indies as well as death Valley and Alaska. And has proven itself in every condition to be an outstanding backpack. I am a tour guide and I recommend this pack for anyone who's getting into hiking for the first time and plans to have a pack for 10 years or more. My Gregory pack lasted for about one year before I had issues with the internal frame work. This pack is very durable and I must say is very comfortable. When you're descending from 14,000 feet you do not feel like you have a small midget on your back. You can turn 360° without losing your balance. I recommend fitting the pack prior to you using it. I have several friends all different sizes and not one of them have complained about center of gravity issues with this pack. Sierra has come a long way over the years and surpasses any [$]pack. In closing I would like to say if this pack had legs it would climb for you. This pack would be the last pack you would ever need. Big Bang for your Buck.

Comments about High Sierra Long Trail 90 Pack - Special Buy:
On the first day on the trail, one of the exterior straps ripped out from the pack body and the chest strap broke. Over the course of the 5-day trip, two more straps failed and a zipper jammed. The pack was full, but not overloaded.
There's a reason why this pack is priced as it is: it is poorly made. It might be adequate for car camping, or short backpacking trips with light loads, but nothing more.
Service and delivery comments:
On the bright side, when I took it back to REI, the customer service rep took one look at it, and refunded my money without question.

Comments about High Sierra Long Trail 90 Pack - Special Buy:
I have taken the pack out hiking on several occassions and the pack feels great. BUT the waist belt is made for a 38 or more inch waist. I went back to REI and was not able to switch belts without cost because I bought it online. Bought a wonderful belt, thicker with more padding, for $30 dollars and am now very happy with this pack. Even with the added cost I couldn't find a better deal.

Comments about High Sierra Long Trail 90 Pack - Special Buy:
I got the pack in the mail and it fit fresh out of the box with little adjustment.
I am by no means a small person; 6'4 with a 43" waist. The specs said it is only good for a 36" waist, but it actually appears it would fit someone twice that big. I had to adjust the chest strap down until it wouldnt go any more and it was still a little loose on me. Bottom line, its not going to work for a small person.
I immediately took the pack on a 3 day search excercise. My rectangle synthetic sleeping bag fit easily in the sleeping compartment. I took enough supplies for myself and a second person in addition to my necessary SAR gear, and it easily fit with room to spare.
The pack alone was a tad heavy. I decided to max out the weight just to experience a "worst case scenario." My back is not a bit sore as it used to be with my old packs. The fit was comfortable and it was easy to forget you had it on.
I found the pockets adequate, but I would have liked the side pockets to be a bit bigger. The hydration sleeve runs the length of the pack even with the sleeping drop compartment closed, so it was a nice place to put my water bladder and my tent bivy along with a tarp.
I didnt encouter any rain, so I was unable to determine if its water resistant, nor was I able to test out the included rain fly. Overall, I am extremely impressed with this pack. If you want a large pack for a large person, this is the one to go with.

Comments about High Sierra Long Trail 90 Pack - Special Buy:
I bought this pack because I had another high capacity back that had just broken and I needed something big for a week long trip. I was very pleased with this item. Aside from having a huge main compartment and a bottom sleeping bag area, it had alot of room in the outside pockets to organize the stuff you need to get at quickly.

This is a great pack and at this price its the cheapest 90 liter pack out there. But, if your not a BIG person this pack probably wont fit you. I'm 5'9 180 and pretty stocky and the waist belt on this pack couldn't cinch down enough to fit me. unless your waste is over 38 inches you probably want to find a different pack.

This bag would be a perfect pack for me if I had 38 inches waist. I am 34" to 36" waist and this was just too big, so I was unable to tighten the straps.
So to get to the point, if you are 6 feet or higher and 38 inches waist or bigger that this is the bag for you. Do not waist your time and money if you do not fit this recommendations.
I relay liked the bag, size, easy to load, good quality...but since waist belt did not fit I had to return the pack.

At first I was leary about the brand, however spending some time out with the bag, it was High Sierra's High Quality, that did it in for me.

Comments about High Sierra Long Trail 90 Pack - Special Buy:
I bought this pack at a too-good-to-believe clearance price, and recently took my first trip into the backcountry with it for a one-night trip to try it out. I am very glad it was just a one-night trip.
Despite the specs stating that this fits a 32-40 inch waist/hips, I could only imagine it comfortably fitting a 40+. I'm a 36, and had to cinch the belt as tight as it would go to get it to fit. Even then, it did not feel like I could get the weight of the pack onto my hips because the padded arms of the belt were wrapped all the way around me, and the hard plastic inside them was digging into my thighs as I walked. It was an extremely uncomfortable pack. Some of our old surplus military packs are more comfortable than this.
All the straps seem to be of a heavy, rough material that is very uncomfortable against bare skin (such as when my arms would brush against it while hiking in short sleeves). The zippers are a bit tricky to operate, as well. Our hike was on a hot weekend, and the "Airflow" ventilation system did little to provide any comfort.
On to the good: This pack is incredibly convenient to pack, with a big front access opening and several extra pockets. The sleeping bag compartment easily fit my bag, my bedroll, and the tent footprint with room to spare.
Unfortunately, the poor fit of this pack makes it extremely uncomfortable to wear. After hiking over 5 miles in it over the weekend, I will be returning it. I can only recommend this to someone with a waist size 40" or more due to the large and ungainly belt on this pack.

You cannot afford to miss this deal if you're looking for a backpack. The sleeping bag compartment, top loading drawstrings and front access make it easy to stash and retrieve your gear as needed. There are enough pockets to organize your stuff, but not too many to make it confusing. The backpack is very adjustable and I found it very comfortable to wear, even while carrying a few days worth of supplies for two people!
