Comments about Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Pack:

Okay, so this thing wins Outside Gear of the Year award. I check it out and wow is it comfortable! But there are several problems with this pack, which Justin Litcher (the guy who used it for 10,000 miles) must not have told GG about.

First. It has been an issue before with other GG packs but the lower compression straps run over the stretch pockets and not under! Many packs solve that by having small in the pockets so the straps can run under it.

Second. (This goes for both all the Nimbus Meridian and Meridian Vapor) Where the front zipper ends in the bottom there is a big slit that GG did nothing about. Things as big as your rolled pad can literally fall from your pack if you are disorganized!!! I can't believe the company didn't sew that part! (it's where the grey silnylon and the tougher bottom fabric meet) That could have easily be mended by adding velcro or stitching to hold it together.

Third. The weight. It's advertized as being 3lbs 8oz for the medium. All three Meridians I weighted were 5oz or more heavier and they ALL weighted 3lbs 13oz for the medium. Something to keep in mind if you are after the weight savings.

All in all it's a great pack. I was able to trim the excess straps on mine and cut down another 3oz bringing my pack's weight to 3lbs 10oz. Still heavier than advertised but GG is not the only company that lies about product weight and they won't be the last.

Comments about Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Pack:

Granite Gear makes the best line of ultra-light packs on the market. PERIOD!!! The Nimbus Meridian is a great pack for overnight trips and weekends. In warm weather you could use it for a weeklong trip. The top lid/ fanny pack feature is a nice touch too. The materials are very light weight, but don't think for one second that they aren't sturdy. The adjustable internal frame on this one is very user-friendly. It transfers the weight to your hips very well. Loads of around 20-25 pounds feel like they weigh 20-25 ounces. I highly recommend this pack for the ultra-light backpacker who wants to go on extended trips.

Comments about Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Pack:

I first used this pack hiking the Chilkoot trail in Alaska. I was looking for a pack that would carry what I needed for 3-5 days. Interestingly, my hiking buddy unbeknownst to me, picked the same pack for the same reasons. It was very comfortable, fit everything I needed, and I was able to reduce my weight by about 10 pounds overall for this trip. I love this pack!

Comments about Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Pack:

          Amazing purchase.
The day after it arrived by mail: i had all my backpacks unavailable, including the small ones, and i had to get this for a hike on snowy mountains.Plus, i had to use it as a luggage cause i was going to stop in those places two days more after the hike.
Well, it's so light that when i lifted it, i almost accidenatally throw it out of the window. During the hike i could forget that i had a bag on my shoulders.

Adding that it's well made, in cordura, it's really good in wet conditions and there's plenty of space, i think you should seriously consider this.

Comments about Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Pack:

Purchased this summer and used on two backpacking trips. 4-day in Cloud Peak wilderness and 3-day in Holy Cross Wilderness. Loaded to a peak weight of 45 pounds. Extremely comfortable with a great fit. Hip belt worked without needing to be ridiculously tight like my other packs. Fabric is light weight but pack looks and functions like new after it's first two trips. Unattached front flap at bottom of zipper was unusual but when packed, that area becomes tight and closes up. Loss of contents was not a concern to me. This thing's a winner!

Comments about Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Pack:

In the lightweight category, this pack has the best load transfer for my gear over the others I have tried. Specifically the weight goes to the hips instead of being hung on the shoulders after 20 pound mark, unlike some other light/ultra-light packs. Until pack technology makes a quantum leap forward, this will be my go-to pack for 3-season conditions.

My opinion, Granite Gear could add some organization pockets for accessing smaller items/lightweight layers while getting rid of the big zipper (I'd buy it).
