Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I bought these and took them on a 1 week hiking trip in the Aspen area. They were comfortable from the 1st day on, I was able the wear them every day of the trip. I wasn't sure about wearing just a shoe, I usually wear boots for ankle support, but these wear great.

Took these on an 8-day backpack through the High Sierra- Comfy, stable, grippy, breathable, feet do not overheat in these. Also keeps out water and the ever-present Sierra dust.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I got these shoes to wear on my backpacking trip through Europe. They never made it outside of my house. I have had positive experiences with Merrell in the past, and I was willing to pay for comfort, durability, and water-resistance. I never got a chance to test for the latter two qualities, as these shoes were incredibly uncomfortable on my feet! They seemed too wide and large around the heel area and much too narrow along the toes/ball of foot. It's like they expected the wearer to have a foot that was the same width from heel to toe! If you have a narrow foot, these might be perfect for you, but if you have a wider foot, especially across the ball of the foot, I would stay far away from these shoes!

I took these straight from the box to the trails (in Utah) and had no problems. No breaking in required, no blisters. They gripped well for hiking and climbing.

I bought these shoes for my trip to Peru and they're practically all I wore outside of a pair of flip flops on occasion. My feet never got tired or achy while trekking all over Machu Picchu or the Amazonian jungle. :)

I recommend getting the gators to go with these shoes for added protection in rough weather. As for a light and versatile shoe, which I prefer over a bulky boot. The tread grips the trail great in wet conditions.

The laces have been improved and no longer come untied. I twice-tied my earlier laces and that took care of the problem. This shoe is ideal for those with plantar fasciitis; great stability.

These sneakers feel like they were made for my feet. Great fit right out of the box and very comfortable even when worn all day. I was worried my feet would get hot because my feet sweat in my old Gore-tex boots but these sneakers are very comfortable and breathe well. I took them to the Rockies after my boots came apart at the soles, and I wore them all day without any discomfort. The soles did well on slush, wet sand, and gravel.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Gore-Tex XCR Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I have a pair of Merrell Sirens (w/goretex) that I've had for two years and love them. I took them on the Kalalau Trail in Kauai and they held up surprisingly well for a cross trainer. They're light weight, fit well and have decent traction. However, the tread has finally worn down so I decided to trade up to a sturdier shoe and chose the Chameleon based on its stellar reviews. I'll be doing a lot of hiking this summer so tested them out in Discovery Park today. After 3 miles on varied terrain, my feet started to get hot spots in the areas that had the least cushioning. Also, the shoes aren't as light as I expected. By the end of the walk, they felt like two lead weights. The other problem is the excess cushioning around the tongue which irritates my feet. I had them stretched at REI but they still bothered me. I had this same problem with my Sirens but they eventually softened up.The insoles have decent arch support but don't really provide the kind of cushioning needed for longer hikes (especially around the balls of the feet). Thicker socks would help but then the shoes fit tighter. You can replace them with orthodic inserts but then you're adding another $30 -40 to the cost of the shoe. For [$], I expect a lot more. There's no way I'll take these on long treks so I'm trading them in for a real hiking shoe.

I bought this shoe for our trip to Africa and the summit of Kilimanjaro. They worked wonderfully. Wore two socks to keep warm on the top and had no problem. Comfort is what I wanted and that is what I got.
Also have worn these for a 2 week backpacking trip on the PCT. Again, great shoes.
I would recommend the shoe to anyone looking for a comfortable durable shoe. Looks great too:)
