Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
I don't really get excited about buying things (unless it's a new bike) but this is hands down the perfect bag for backpacking travel. I just got back from 3 weeks in Europe and this bag performed wonderfully, no problems whatsoever.
#1 It is the perfect size, I could always stow it as carry-on luggage. I met several people in Europe who spent half of their vacation trying to find lost luggage, no such problems for me.
#2 This pack makes accessing your stuff so easy. At first I wanted the typical internal frame hiking pack. The Porter works so much better, having two internal pockets for organization, and the main zipper opens completely so you get to stuff on the bottom as easily as things on top. Makes packing and unpacking incredibly easy (which we did every 2-3 days).
#3 Comfortable. It's not a high-end internal frame pack meant for carrying 100lb+ loads over a dozen miles a day, but it is pretty comfortable. Shoulder straps are ergonomic high-density foam, include leveling straps and sternum strap. The hip belt has a nice wide strap to avoid chaffing. Overall, a good solid fit enabling you to sight see with decent comfort.
#4 Everything works flawlessly. Zippers are ultra sturdy; compression straps make walking in tight spaces (trains, etc.) no problem; no loose straps or buckles, everything has a tidy clip or stash so there's nothing to catch on when walking or stowing the bag.
CONCLUSION: A well designed bag which functions excellently for its intended purpose. Check one out before you settle on that hiking pack that looks so cool.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
My wife and I recently went on a 9 week trip through Asia that took us through:
-6 countries
-28 cities
-36 homestays, hotels, huts, and bungalows
-Planes, trains, buses, taxis, pickup trucks, motor scooters, minibuses, kayaks, canoes, longtail boats, and ferries
And these bags always performed superbly. Not a single complaint from either of us (And my wife is very critical of things). We are usually notorious overpackers for trips, vacations, and backpacking. But we were able to do this entire trip with these two of these bags with no problems at all.
The bags even came back looking practically brand new after getting abused day after day. There are many great things about this bag. The carry handles are big and comfortable to hold. The back pack straps and hipbelt are comfortable enough to carry a fully loaded bag around a crowded city for 3-4 hours at time.
Easy access to every pocket in the bag. Not only that but there are the perfect amount of pockets. I think we have all had a bag with you wondering what to do with all 30 pockets. The cinch straps help compress and keep everything in place as you travel.
Overall my wife and I decided while we were on this trip that for the money, this bag has been by far our best purchase yet.
If looking for a carry on sized bag that will convert from a duffel bag to backpack, look no further.
If you are going on a long vacation and plan on buying or bringing your big hiking backpack. Don't do it. You will regret it. We met many people on our trip who regreted bringing those large backpacks.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
This pack's simplicity, clean and sturdy design and functionality are excellent. Normally I'm a heavy traveler, who loves gadgets, bells and whistles on my bags, but I am converting to the "light is right" mentality (especially when hiking and climbing). This pack represents a sea change for me, and one well-worth my time and money.
I just returned from my first trip to Europe with a local tour outfit that HIGHLY encourages travelers to pack light: an airline carry-on size bag (22" x 14" x 9") and maybe a day bag. I bought this pack expressly for this trip, and I was glad I did.
I pared down my hygiene kit and it fit perfectly inside the small pouch accessible from the outside of the pack. The zippered horseshoe-shaped lid has a slim pocket on both exterior and interior, great for reading materials and other thin items. There is only one interior pocket, along one side of the pack, and it's mesh. The lack of many pockets and interior straps allows you to maximize your packing (something I've been too good at in the past).
The foam padding on the pack's sides keep the bag open while the top lid is unzipped, allowing you to pack easily without the pack collapsing on you. It also allows you to cinch up and compress the pack (two exterior compression straps) well.
The backpack straps (easily stashable when using as luggage) were comfortable and included a sternum strap. I didn't use the waistbelt, but it felt comfortable when trying it on.
This pack seems to be durable, and has high-quality, large zippers, and a Cordura cloth exterior.
The ONLY con is the "bottom" end of the pack - it's tapered at both top and bottom "ends" which doesn't allow it to stand upright on the ground.
A great traveling pack, at a great price. Highly recommended.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
I bought this pack to utilize as my only piece of luggage this summer on a 5 week trip to Europe. I was able to carry-on every flight, except for one discount airline in Europe, but I knew that ahead of time. The pack worked flawlessly and gave me room for everything that I needed for the trip. I loved the backpack straps that could be zipped in and the backpack worked great when we had to walk from our hotel to the train stations, etc. I've also used it for shorter business trips and it works fantastic for this as well. A great buy and would highly recommend.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
My daughter, my best friend, and myself all purchased this backpack to travel through Italy 17 days. The backpack was light enough that all three of us women could carry them fully stuffed, fit perfectly in all of the plane overhead bins, and the inside contents never got wet despite a torrential downpour in Venice (we got soaked, but our things didn't). The wise packer will find that it has more than enough room including souvenirs. The daisy chain rows on the front are especially nice when attaching locks. We felt safe walking with them in the crowded train stations and streets of Italy because the construction is durable and tough and would make it difficult if a potential thief tried to cut through the sides. The padded adjustable shoulder straps make it very comfortable to carry long distances and the adjustable waist and chest harnesses balance the weight making walking (and running through airports) easy.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
I first used this pack on a 17 day trip to Europe. It was able to fit on the plane as my carry-on luggage. I was one of the only ones who did not have the airline lose their luggage because it was with me the whole time. Easy to carry not only through the airport but also on buses, trains as well as to the hotel. I was able to pack all of my clothes and made great use of the top storage pocket, front storage space and the two mesh pockets inside. Perfect for what I needed.
I have used this pack for other trips to Philly, Toronto and as a weekend bag. I highly recommend this pack to those who need to save on space. Got many compliments and many people asking what kind of bag it is.

I used this pack for a 2 week trip to Thailand. It holds so much more than you think. My friend talked me out of buying the bigger pack which you see very often traveling. I carried this bag on the flight and had a delay in hong kong. They were able to put me on a flight that left in 15 minutes because I had carry on. Otherwise I would have had to spend the night at the airport like other travelers. I brought plenty of extras from Thailand with no problem fitting it in. The pack keeps expanding, even when you would assume it's full. Great pack!!! I couldn't recommend it more. The zippers will fit a lock which is nice compared to the outdoor packs.

I bought this pack for a 10 day trip to Spain & France. I wanted a carry-on compatible pack- this pack fit the bill. I was able to pack all my things, plus souvenirs and even some of husband's stuff. I did use some packing organizers for small stuff. I highly recommend this bag. The quality is excellent so I expect I'll be using it for a long time.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
Great Pack. My girlfriend and I went on a 4 month trip through Europe and Southeast Asia. Each of us brought along the pack and a small day bag. We didn't need anything more. We met a lot of other backpackers with the huge bags all them were envious. Also the pack fit perfectly as a carry on, even with the star alliance carries and budget asian carries. Not one tear, and not one compaint.

Comments about Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack:
I bought this bag in preparation for a 3 month long trip to India. It held up beautifully, and it carried more than I expected. The bag weighs less than 3 pounds, and although the hide-away backpack straps and hip belt are a bit thinly padded, they were adjustable and carried the load adequately. I like the "StraightJacket" compression set up as it allowed me to streamline the bag and make it look smaller than its contents would otherwise have suggested. All in all, this is a great bag and I have not regretted its purchase. In fact, I used this bag for a two-week trip to Chicago recently, and I "one-bag"ged it the whole way. My wife was skeptical that I could do it, but in the end even she was impressed. I highly recommend this bag.
