Comments about Marmot Original DriClime Windshirt - Men's:

Marmot has renamed their Driclime line recently. Be aware that the "Original Driclime Windshirt" has no exterior hand pockets. For that you want the "Driclime Jacket," which used to be called the "Driclime Windshirt." Ugh.

Other than that, this product is great: it gets worn 200 days/year, and I always bring it along. it's tiny, warm, light, well-designed, and lasts forever.

The weight to warm ratio makes this essential gear for every trip. It's perfect for cool, breezy days around town and can cover a wide array of weather changes when stuffed into a compact ball in your pack. When considering what gear to take on all but the warmest days, this is the first piece to go in the "must have" pile.

Comments about Marmot Original DriClime Windshirt - Men's:

For many years the Marmot Driclime Windshirt was my favorite layering/shell piece and would come along on every climbing trip regardless of whether we were headed to the desert or the arctic. After many years of hard use and meritorius service my driclime was retired and replaced with a softshell. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and three years later, missing my windshirt, I picked up a replacement. To my dismay, one of the key features of the old model has been dropped and the cut feels a bit boxier.

The original driclime windshirt used to stuff into its own chest pocket equipped with reversible zipper and clip-in loop which made it a perfect piece for multipitch climbing. Clip it to your harness until you need it, then put it on at the belay or when the afternoon wind picks up.

Sadly, Marmot has dropped the reversible zipper and clip-in loop in favor of a cheaper and easier-to-produce version of the jacket. Without that feature, this jacket just becomes one of many other windshirts on the market with nothing special to make it rise above the rest.

Comments about Marmot Original DriClime Windshirt - Men's:

I agree w/ most of the other reviewers, except for Hankk from Boulder.
I've had my Driclime Windshirt for over 10 years and it only has the one breast pocket which is fine w/me. It's so light and packable and warm, useful in so many different situations.

I hardly ever go anywhere w/out throwing mine in my pack or my bag for the day or a month. It really has been an amazing garment. It is NOT the most rugged, but so what with all it has going for it . I tore the sleeve of mine about 3 years ago and sewed it up , most of the time I don't even think about it.

I'm finally buying another one because the zipper is starting to go on mine. After 10-12 years of continuous use! If you buy one , you will be happy .

Comments about Marmot Original DriClime Windshirt - Men's:

I have owned several wind breakers and active jackets, and currently use the Windshirt and Mountain Hardware's Wind Stopper. The windshirt wicks away moisture better than any other active jacket, is compressible, and is the jacket of choice for my climbing bag when I don't know the weather conditions and need to protect myself from surprise, cold winds on multi-pitch climbs. It's not durable, though, and tears easier than other gear, which is why I use the bulkier Wind Stopper when I know the weather will be cold and windy. I also use the Windshirt as my road biking jacket, or any other sweat-producing activity. It also seems warmer than the Wind Stopper, but not by much. It's not a rain jacket, or a "sit around" warm jacket, but it's excellent for active folks.

I hardly leave the house without this jacket, lighter than a T-shirt and able to compress small enough to fit in a pocket, it has a huge range of uses. It is always in my pack. It wicks sweat like nothing else and is very comfortable. Recently convinced a friend to buy it and he loves his aswell!

Comments about Marmot Original DriClime Windshirt - Men's:

This is still the best midlayer going, forget all those bulky softshells. The new pockets, with the horizontal chest zipper, are not nearly as useful as the old napoleon vertical zip pockets, however; I don't know why Marmot went to this style. Wear it over a t in the summer when it's cool, under a shell or puffy when it's not. I've even used two, one over the other, in really cold weather when I'm active; the nylon layers slide over each other, frictionless! The only improvement, MAKE ONE WITH A HOOD!!!!!
            Are you listening, Marmot?

Comments about Marmot Original DriClime Windshirt - Men's:

I got this on sale during the Labor Day clearance for wear outdoors at sports games and casual outdoor-ness. It survived an Oakland A's night game and performed well in the wind and cooler nights in the Bay. It didn't pass, however, a cold day of wind in Reno during a college football game but I think I was asking too much. The weather was in the high 30s and I was tasking it for more than it's worth. It could have been worse but for what this is designed for, I'll take it.

This jacket is an excellent balance of light weight (~10.5 ozs), bulk, and warmth. It is my jacket of choice in Spring and Fall when backpacking. I love this jacket. It doesn't compromise warmth and weight by adding extra pockets. Very simple design. It can be squished up into a very small ball, that is easy to pack.
One thing you do have to watch with this and other synthetic material jackets -- Keep away from flames.
