Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
This is the Best Thing I have bought for camping in a long while. It's comfortable, quick setup, and warm on cold nights. It's also adjustable, you can just blow a little air in it to make it firmer or let some out of soften it up. The main thing I love about this is how warm you stay. Air mattresses have almost zero insulation factor, so you freeze. This is insulated and comfortable. You stay warm, sleep well, and wake up rested.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
This is probably the best value Thermarest out there. Thermarest are a must for camping. I have also used this for concerts on the grass, an afternoon at the park laying down to read, even at home for sleep overs. The only drawback I can think of is that the Medium size is a little to narrow. But very good product.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
I used this product on a 3 week cross country trip in October. On the trip I camped in the rain in the Ozarks, freezing temperatures in Santa Fe, cool clear nights in the Grand Canyon, dry windy conditions in Joshua Tree, extreme heat of Death Valley, and snow in Yosemite. Normally when car camping I use a queen size inflatable mattress which I always found to be somewhat uncomfortable. So you could say that I was a bit of skeptic when purchasing a 2 inch thick pad. This product exceeded my expectations in every way. I am 5'10 and bought a large pad because I tend to move around when I sleep. The pad was very comfortable; I never felt rocks or the cold ground underneath me. The downside is the pad is a bit heavier and does not roll up as tight as other pads. I used a couple of buckled straps to make it more compact. Although it is not intended for backpacking you could bring it if you can attach to the outside of your pack, and are willing to carry an extra 1-2 pounds. My friend who is a minimalist camper ended up sleeping on 2 thinner pads, and he was still not as comfortable as I was on this 1 pad. I was so impressed with the comfort and ease of this pad that I planning on purchasing a second one for my fiancé.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
The pad is perfect except for a tendency to be slippery. So. I stuck strips of rough tape on it so my sleeping bag would stay put! It worked and I have used it on bike trips and camping for two years now.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
You can't beat this pad for comfort and performance. I just spent a week on the west coast and the pad is all you can ask for. I have some back problems, so it's vital that I get a good night's rest and this pad is the ticket. Open the valve when you set up camp. By the time you're ready to turn in, give it a couple of good breaths to make it firm and it's ready to go. Adjusting it to your own comfort is a snap. Just lay down and let air out until it's comfortable, close the valve, and forget it.
It's too heavy and too bulky for backpacking, but it's not billed as a backpacking pad.
My son, who was with me, swapped me his 20" Thermarest for this pad. He also, snagged my 25" Thermarest Camp Chair. He came out pretty well on the deal.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
Beats the heck out of laying on the ground! Easy to use just unroll open valve and it does the rest. If you prefer a firmer pad you can add air by mouth. Be sure you opt for the storage bag. Not the most compact pad but it is comfortable. It is also a sure bet if you are laying on a slope you will wake up off of the pad because it is slick against a sleeping bag.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
This sleeping pad is not only superior to the old air mattresses or blue foam pads, it is better than a lot of hotel beds I've slept on! It rolls up easily to store in the stuff sack (sold separately) and self inflates without any hassle. I like mine a bit more firm than the self inflate, so three or four puffs of air and it's ready to sleep on. I've used this in cold and damp (14F - 50F) weather on some rather unpleasant terrain and never felt a bit of chill penetrate through the pad. This is one piece of gear that I simply will not leave home without!
Words cannot truly convey the merits of waking up after a good nights sleep and actually feeling rested and ready to take on another day of trails. This sleeping pad is the backpacking equivalent of bringing a masseuse with you to work out the kinks and knots from a long day on the trail while you slumber peacefully through the night. I find that the few ounces of extra weight over other models is a fair trade for a good nights rest.

Comments about Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Sleeping Pad - Large:
This is a great pad, I use it for extended camping trips. ie months of overland travel and it works like a charm.
One failing is the poor storage sac that comes with it. It's at least 1/3 to big in diamater. After rolling the pad up tight you want it to stay that way. I had to purchase a different stuff sack that was a tighter fit and had compression straps on.
Great pad for a good nights sleep and that's what it's all about.

I just recieved this thermarest as a gift and tried it out this weekend. Even with temps in the 20's and freezing rain it kept me warm and comfotable.
