I use this along with a propane lantern when truck camping. It doesn't heat up like a fuel burning lantern which makes it ideal for having around kids and tent walls. Also it produces no CO which means no dying in your tent :)
It's light intensity is not as bright as a propane/white fuel lantern but bright enough. It has a very long chage time (18 hours initially) but lasts 8 hours according to the manufacturer and comes with a 12v charging cord for your car tucked into the bottom as well as an AC charger to keep at home.

This lantern performs just as you would expect.
Perfect brightness for setting up a tent or cooking. One charge performed longer than it says in the specs.
The 12V charge cable stores in the foot of the lantern, which makes it convenient for the road.
I like this lantern better than lanterns with liquid fuels because it's easier to use (on/off switch) and safe (no worries if it tips over).

The only drawback: Almost no difference in brightness between the low and the high setting. So dimming it down for reading a book without disturbing your significant other doesn't work.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    I purchased this lantern in hopes it would be a green friendly product. I had hoped to use it during family camping trips, I charged it up at home for 2 days and went camping about 4-5 days later, the lantern only lasted about 30 minutes. I found if you have power and keep it plugged in during the day, it will last about 2 hours, it just will not hold a charge over any length of time. It really is not worth the effort...going to an LED lantern now.

    Great for car/cabin camping. way too heavy for backpacking. decent light but not overly powerful, plenty to light a table or dimly light your camp site.

    Its main advantage is it is rechargable and this is the only one out there. It takes a while to charge but if you have planned your trip ahead of time then definitely better than any other latern. We could even cook in its light, late in the evening. My wife loves its cute red look.

    It gets pretty dark when the lights go out at night, and it is nice to have a reliable rechargeable lamp nearby. I have used it several times in the past year, and it is sure great to have something so affordable nearby. I already had two and the two that I just purchased were for my daughter.

      This is the best lantern I have owned. No fuel, mantels or pumping. Just switch it on. It has a sealed lead acid battery that runs it up to 9 hours. Of course it is a little heavy (lead). But it is not heavy enough to bother us. It sure beats continually buying replacement batteries. Recharge during the day from either 12V DC or 110V AC. Then use it all night. It puts out enough light for my wife and I both to read, setting it on a small table between our camp chairs. I am buying another so we will have two to use at home when the power goes off.

      So it's not the lightest lantern in the world, but it is durable, high-quality and the perfect addition to your car camping adventure. Bright light, several settings. Loved the night light feature - great for scaring off the bears:) Kidding of course! Charge lasted no problem. Wouldn't consider anything else.

      This is a great product. Runs forever without recharging (yet)! Has several output choices from very bright to an orange nightlight. It is pretty heavy so I wouldn't pack it in far. Perfect for families.
