Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
This product really comes in handy. We live and play in Southeast Alaska and I am also a wilderness guide. I guide trips all year round and during bear season, the stakes get even higher. I always carry my Springfield XD 45 ACP but, I also carry my bear deterrent. On a recent trip out with clients we ran up on a very large brown bear. I was guiding 4 men and 2 teenagers and when we came upon the bear, I had everybody stop and after backing up, I had them make as much noise as possible. The bear was undeterred and instead began to approach at a pretty quick pace. He went for one of the teenage boys and things began to unravel quite quickly. I had my firearm drawn and was ready to unload but, the young boy was in the line of fire and was pretty much frozen with fear. I then grabbed my bear deterrent and ran around the flank to get a shot at the bears upper body. It immediately stopped him and caused him to start making a noise similar to a roar. I was then able to grab the young boy and we all began to retreat. While I always carry my gun and I feel very safe with the stopping power that it offers, shooting may not always be an option. I would highly recommend that anybody traveling in bear country should carry a can of this stuff. It does work and may be your only alternative. Lastly, a dangerous encounter with a bear may require that you put him down but, it is always nice to try less deadly means first.

Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
Nice to have in bear country. Buy two and use one for target practice. If you have to use it you want to feel comfortable that you know the range and spread. Note: when testing, make sure you are up wind. The spray will linger and will make you cough even in small doses. If you buy it, buy the holster because leaving it in camp does you no good with the bear on the trail.

Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
On the hike up to Holden Lake, WA., last year, we surprised a large Black Bear feeding on berries alongside the trail. We pulled out our Counter Assault Bear Spray and slipped off the safety and pointed. Two hikers, two cans of spray. Enough spray to give the bear a headache. The bear grunted and turned his rear end toward us and we slowly walked backward up the trail, eyes on the bear, cans pointed. Very comforting to have the bear spray while in Bear country. Perhaps this bear had a bad memory for bear spray.

Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
Last night went for a walk with my two small dogs in a quiet suburban neighborhood when halfway through it I hear the unmistakable sound of dog toenails skittering on pavement (if you own a dog, you know the sound). I whirl around to see a PIT BULL barreling full speed toward us. It is instantly clear we are the target. The dog was on us in an instant. I unholstered the can of Counter Assualt bear spray we just recently attached to one of the leashes and I was ready to use it, but at the last minute the pit bull wagged her tail, slowed enough for me to see she was only overly friendly, not aggressive. I didn't use a single drop of the spary. My realization here is that this event happened in the span of a few seconds. I have had bear spray attached to my belt, back pack and day pack for years hiking in both Washington and Montana wilderness areas and national parks, and I've never once used it, but always considered it one of the essentials in bear country. I will now ALWAYS carry it with my dog walking equipment because, even though the dog was on us before we could have prevented the attack, I'm sure if I'd had to use it, I could have greatly diminished the severity and durration of an attach had it acutally come to that. Bottom line, practice responsible pet ownership by leashing your dogs, but also, walk with Counter Assualt, espeically if you're with a person or pet you cherish.

Comments about Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray - 290 Gram:
If you want big-time deterrent, this is the one for you!! Easy to use and light enough to not intrude with your activities. Looks to have more than enough fluid in the cansiter to saturate any attacking beast, be it 4 legs or 2, while in the woods. I do suggest ordering the optional holster for easy carrying--this is a BIG canister. Good piece of mind when in the wilderness!
