Comments about Integral Designs Unishelter Exp Bivy in eVent:
This is a great bivy, one might even say an excellent bivy, but despite the pole and eVENT, it is still only a bivy.
The head pole creates some nice extra room around the head and there is pretty good ventilation with a light breeze. Its light and easy to set up.
However, despite the eVENT's claim that interior moisture would dissipate, I did not find this to be the case unless I slept with the zipper almost undone (risky in mosquito country). Zippered up I invariably woke up wet with condensation, even in the dry Sierra. In order to avoid this I found it best if there is a breeze and you orient the shelter lengthwise to provide cross-flow. It never rained on me, so I can't comment on its waterproofness.
Also, the guy line system that keeps the head pole upright has on a number of occasions become dislodged during the night, causing the pole to collapse. Once I had to get up and out of the shelter in the middle of the night to rectify the situation.
Personally, I would rather carry an extra pound and sleep in a more comfortable tent-like shelter. But if you're a lover of bivy's and are looking for just a little more comfort, this would be a great buy.

When I go mountain, the eVENT shelter is my friend.

Having tried everything form $800 Bibler tents (pure luxury but not ultra light for Alaska climbs) to just tarps (that becomes a parachute and rip in high winds) this is one that hits the sweet spot. My joy is to climb the highest peaks and spend the night on top of the world looking at the most awesome gorgeous sunsets, but I have to have something that stands up to 70 mile plus wind gusts and sheets of rain blowing sideways(tarps and ultra light tents can't do this). This shelter is the best I've found for unexpected very violent weather. If they could just make it bear proof I would give it 6 stars.
The only negative I've expenienced is on rare occasions sleeping next to a stream with higher humidity is some minor condensation, but no more than with other enclosed shelters (one area where tarps excel).
I've used this winter mountering in temps down to -30 in snow with great results. This shelter adds 5 to 10 degrees warmth over just tarp camping.
After 2 years of use I found I needed to seal some the taped seams, but this was minor. I love the fact I can set this up anywhere in just 3 minutes.
Over 25 tents and 15 tarps later, this is my favorite for mountaineering.
