Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
These pants suit what I do perfectly, cant say if they would be good in a harsh winter or backpacking but I'm sure they would suit fine.I hike every weekend and with the winter coming up these are a godsend. I tried them in local creeks and in some snow and worked very well and feel great. Coolest thing is that they come with a stuff sack and compress in the sack down to about the size of a soft ball and weigh next to nothing. Great buy!

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
They are great pants but they don't breathe that well. I wish that they were more durable. All and all they are good pants for day, overnight,or two night trips.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
The fit and construction on these pants is decent. It's not amazing but it is what you would expect for the price. they are certainly light weight and the material is better than the Marmot Precip and similar fabrics. However, my beef with these pants is that the ankle zipper is way too short. If you have a boot bigger than size 9, you have to wrestle the pants over your boots if you want to avoid taking your boots off in the impending rain. Another 3 inches of zipper and the problem would be solved. If you just want a pair of cheap rain pants you can throw on in the morning and wear all day, these are great. If you plan on putting them on and taking them off with boots on, you might consider other options.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Crossing the Rockies on a motorbike in July when I realised I needed waterproof gear. Very different weather to Death Valley :)
Picked these up to keep me dry, and they were perfect. Even against driving rain I never got wet. I was very impressed.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
The pants aren't the lightest but pretty tough for the weight. Don't think the pocket zips are really needed but I don't mind them. I really like the small and easy ankle tighting system as it helps keep out snow when used as snow pants.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Used these pants on three winter hikes (4000 footers) so far along with a couple pair on long johns underneath and it snowed/rained on two of those hikes with a 60 miles wind on one of the summits. Pants kept me bone dry and they breath which is great. Also wore them a few times shoveling snow while in the elements and they worked great!

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I just used these pants as my rain/wind layer on a week long trip in Wrangell St. Elias in eastern Alaska. They survived bushwhacking through waist high brush and tundra (with gaiters) and kept me dry below the waist.
Only downside is the lack of leg vents for getting rid of heat buildup when hiking hard.

Comments about REI Ultra Light Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I have worn these pants in downpours and have stayed dry and warm underneath. Easy to remove and put on. The fit is good and they seldom slide down like others do. No snaps to come apart like my previous pants. This is why I got these and it has been a good choice.
