Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

I am amazed at how much this device improves the efficiency of my Giga Power stove. It makes cooking in moderate breezes much easier, and it gives a measure of protection to the fuel supply as well. It's money well spent.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

It is a great help, and saves a lot of fuel... but Snow Peak should know that some of us are willing to pay for weight savings... and going from steel to Titanium would make a HUGE difference in this item!!! It weights more than the stove... probably almost twice as much!!!

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

Bottom line: You've already got the Snow Peak Giga Power Stove, now get the Windscreen. With the Windscreen, fuel efficiency improvement is significant. Time to boil a pot of water is noticeably reduced, especially in a breeze or wind. The Windscreen slips on and off the four stove wires without a problem. I don't leave home without it.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

This windscreen is almost perfect. Not only does it do a good job blocking the wind, but it acts as a heat reflector. I use the Snow Peak Trek 700 Pot with mine. The wind screen has a larger diameter than the pot wich allowed me to make a minor modification to the windscreen. I took a 1.5" aluminum strip and raised the walls of the windscreen up the side of the pot. This makes the windscreen totaly windproof, and even more efficient. I think it added 1/4 of an ounce, and it fits perfectly around the fuel can in the pot for storage. I read some other reviews that say it is too heavy, and that the windscreen may even way twice as much as the stove. That is bull, the windscreen weighs 2 ounces, and the lightest stove they make is the 2.5 ounce titanium without the igniter. Anyway if 2 ounces makes your trip uncomfertable then you better stay at home. My kit includes the Trek 700 Pot, Giga Power Stove manual(Stainless Steal), Giga Power Windscreen w/aluminum side wall, and a REI folding Ti Spork. With a full canister of fuel, and the mesh stuff sack it weighs 17.5 ounces. It is just over a pound, but it is alot lighter than the Jetboil I replaced (22.5 ounces w/full canister) and much smaller aswell. You don't have to have a windscreen, but if you have ever had to use a canister stove in high winds without one you know why you would want one.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

Easy to install: screw Gega-Power stove onto fuel canister, fully open pot support arms, THEN - move each arm back in 1/8", NOW wind screen will just drop down onto stove, then open the support arms back to fully open.

Problem: When the screen was mounted on my stove, the screen would not allow the pot support arms to fully open. It was close, but I noticed my cook pot always seemed a little out of kilter. The slots in the screen (the suppot arms reached through) did not extend as far out as the arms wanted to go. I modified my screen's slots a little (extended them), then OK.
I find he wind screen to be light weight. My Gega Power stove (in it's little plastic box) weighs 127 grams, and my modified wind screen is 55 grams. A full 4oz fuel canister wieghs 230 grams, and will last longer using the wind screen. All in all this wind screen is well worth carrying.

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

I have used this screen for over a year now.

I am very confused at the complaints.
Too heavy? Its 2 oz, the lightest/most compact screen out on the market.

Too difficult to put on? It takes me about 5 seconds to put on. And once on its stable.

This screen and the titanium stove is what made the Snow Peak my favorite.

Another great thing is the design. Its helps shield the flame from the canister, which traditional windscreendo not do. Traditional screens can not be used with canister stoves because it heats up the fuel.

So why didn't I give it 5 stars?
Because the edges are not folder back. Its not sharp, but I do carry it in a ziplock bag just in case.

Titanium can't sustain high temps for long periods e.g. Ti cookware. Supposed to use moderate heat. I would imagine this piece is likely to get just as hot as the supports it rests on. Mine turns red. Those prongs are steel right?

Comments about Snow Peak Giga Power Windscreen:

A stove needs wind protection. I used a homemade one. Worked, cost nothing, and weighed nothing, but delicate.

I replaced it with this one. Assembly is easier with this factory made one, but I still have to take my gloves off.

I don't worry about the weight. A titanium windscreen might save an 1oz. but the money could cut more weight elsewhere. For real "gram weenie" days I can heat noodles in a mug on my 11g alcohol stove. When I want to cook, the giga power and windscreen work well.
