Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
Technically, it does work. I would recommend it for trips no further than 20'. It is designed to attach at the end of your boat. It is also unable to support the kayak by itself. You have to stabilize it with two leader lines that you have to hold onto in addition to your boat.
For any distance, I would recommend a a cart that attaches in the middle of the boat.

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
I got this only because the used kayak came with it (Soltice GT) I've used it with the GT and with another plastic sea kayak. When I saw it, I could see how it should work, but i could also see that it wouldn't.
You carry almost all the weight of the kayak, the wheels do not go over anything but perfect pavement, forget even hard with potholdes or tree roots. For me it is easier to carry the kayak two blocks to the launch than to use these wheels.
Better off using one that can strap on under the cockpit

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
I read that it was for sea kayaks, but being rather frugal I thought I might be able to make it work. Well. . .I spent more time adding more foam & straps and the thing was use-less. It did not track very well or even stay on the kayak. It really doesn't work on recreation kayaks. . . sea kayaks maybe? My advice would be to spend more money on a better cart!!

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
This was the only one available at the store, and I had to get one for immediate use. I don't see how it can fit *any* other boat - as it didn't fit my small one, the cheap-material straps don't stay on at all, and the tires are waaaay too small to use over sand, curbs, etc. For yak dollies, bigger/fatter tires are the way to go!

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
Spend the extra money to get a cart that is better-designed. In order to use this cart you have to attach a length of line nearly as long as your kayak to the cart and then wrap the line around the coaming to keep the cart from slipping off the boat. Besides that, it's just cheaply built, although it's fine for short portages across even ground. The only bright spot is that it breaks down into a very portable package that will fit in a day hatch.

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
After being used only a couple times a year, we had two of these fail in the same manner after approximately 15 years. In both cases one of the struts broke at the V in the center where it bends just above the axel. Also, less knobby tread would be easier to keep clean, and center wheels may be easier to use with a loaded kayak. On the positive side, they are light, and easy to breakdown and store flat against a bulkhead so they take up almost no space.

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
THIS PRODUCT REQUIRES A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF ADDITIONAL ROPE TO SECURE A GOOD FIT AMD FRANKLY IF IT WAS FEASIBLE TO CARRY MY KAYAK I WOULD OPT TO DO THAT INSTEAD OF ATTACHING THIS. THIS IS NOT A PRODUCT FOR BEGINNERS AND FRANKLY IT CAN BE TIRESOME FOR THE EXPERIENCED. I DID NOT GET ANOTHER ONE WHEN I BOUGHT A SECOND KAYAK

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
Did not work on my boat. I have a Wilderness 14' fiberglass boat. The boat would not stay on the cart. I took it back and ordered a nicer cart. Cheap, but not usable.

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
So many poor ratings on all kayak carts. Despite all that, I use this product to help launch my Mad River Synergy 14. Parking is not always available next to the water, I often use this product to help haul my loaded boat 500+ yards to the launch area. Simply slip over the stern (rear) and I use a tie down to secure the straps to a forward section of the boat. Glides over rough terrain and enables me to easily travel from truck to water with a loaded boat. It's fantastic in it's simplicity.

Comments about Washburne Sternwheels Kayak Cart:
This is my second order of this cart. I got my first one eleven years ago with my first kayak - a simple recreational kayak. My kayak is perfect for my enjoyment of nature, but it lacks a hatch or much storage room. I typically have only a few blocks to go from unloading my kayak in the marina to the dock. This cart has served me well over the years and only after eleven years use did it finally break. If I had more storage room in my kayak, I might be tempted to go for one of the bigger carts. But for my situation, this cart has been just great and I was so happy - eleven years later - to find it still available!
