Comments about Lafuma Extreme +40 Sleeping Bag - Regular - '07 Closeout:

I used this pack for a bivvy at the base of a climb. I was able to pack this down without the stuff sack to the size of a half gallon milk container. I was camped next to a lake at over 12000Ft. The temp at dark was 43F.I assumed the temp would dip down below the bags rating of 40F so I wore socks, light thermal underwear and a light hat. I was very warm so I think this bag lives up to its rating. The light and slippery material felt unconfining, hardly felt I was in a bag. The only negative was the slippery material caused me to slide a little.I got this really cheap on an REI outlet sale marked down from the outlet price. This is a great bag!!

27 degrees. Nice and snug. Enough said. But I'll keep going...

I used this guy two nights in Deam Wilderness and although its snug, I couldn't have been happier. The first night dropped to 27 and with a sweatshirt and long johns I felt great. I did throw a hand warmer in the bottom, which helped because this bag is so well insulated. I even woke up around 4 and realized I wasn't wearing socks. And it started raining. I threw on my space blanket for protection.

Between to rain and condensation the outside of my bag was pretty wet, but I was bone dry.

The next night was 43 and I never overheated, but I did keep it unzipped a little. Both nights were pretty calm so I can't speak for how well these work in high winds, but I will say it can work for warm sleepers at its extreme temp rating.

The only downside I found was the footbox was pretty tight. But I'm every bit of 6'1" and the bag says it fits to 6'. I like snug, but if you have problems with being claustrophobic then try elsewhere.

South East texas temps in the low 50's..In addition to being in this bag I had to wear poly tee, long poly shirt, another poly tee, fleece beany hat, wool sox a fleece vest and a silk bag liner. Ive been camping for close to forty years and this is the coldest I ever slept. This bag is see trough thick and provides practically nothing for the weather i was in. You gotta be kidding me it was 52 and 53 degrees last weekend. This aint no 40's bag.... Im glad I tried it out before I put my family in these things.

At first I didn't believe that a bag this small and light could be good for anything other than summer camping - but i agreed to give it a test and was pleasantly surprised to find myself completely warm and comfortable at about 45 F on a wet windy night. The key I think is a good sleeping pad to help - but this bag was flawless - and its smaller than a football when compressed in its sack! - I've since talked two friends into getting one and they couldn't be happier.... everyone on the last trip was jealous of this one...

this is a great bag for warm temperatures. it packs down very small and weighs close to nothing.

i took it on the appalachian trail this past weekend and the temperature got down to 45 degrees. i had on a pair of addidas pants, a pair of mountain hardware pants, a long sleeve shirt, a long john shirt, and an insulated north face jacket and i STILL froze my butt off. definitely not a 40 degree bag if you ask me, but im 5 foot 8, 130 pounds so im pretty cold natured as it is.

Gave my new bag its first real test on a 5 day trip through the Sierra Nevadas including the summit of Mt. Whitney. The first night, low temp of 38. I had to wear a long sleeve base, soft shell jacket, long underwear and socks. Still cold. 3rd night, 30 degrees. Wore a beanie, two long sleeve base layers, soft shell jacket, long underwear, pants, two pairs of socks. Still cold. Last night, 45 degrees. Wore long sleeve base, long underwear and socks. Comfortable. All that in addition to my insulated pad (r-value: 4.1) VERDICT: used the bag below its recommended temperature rating and had to wear a bunch of clothes. Used the bag above its temp rating and had to wear "expected" clothing. I give it an OK which is all I expected for a bag that costs [$]

I love this bag; I got it on sale and for the price it can't be beat. Used in Michigan's UP in temps ranging from about 35 to 45. I was warm enough with a good camp pad underneath.

I love how tiny this bags packs up. There's enough gear to stow for family tent camping with kids, and this bag cuts down on the space I used to use for bigger, bulkier sleeping bags. I'm ordering six more now that it's a "proven" bag - two more for my kids, and four for my sister, her husband, and her two kids (for Christmas.)
