Bike Touring Tool Kit Checklist

(Choose items that match your touring plans and your repair experience)

The Bare Essentials

• Spare tube and patch kit
• Patch material for inside of blown tire (so tube doesn't poke through when inflated)
• Tire levers (at least 2)

• Credit card, or cell phone to call home (in case something major goes wrong)
• Tire pump

Common Tools

• Phillips screwdrivers (small and medium-sized)
• Adjustable "crescent" wrenches (small, medium, large) or open-end wrenches (a set of common sizes, plus one that fits your headset)
• Pliers (preferably needle-nosed)
• Chain tool

• Allen wrenches (a set of common sizes. Metric: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8mm)
• Spoke wrench
• Sockets and a socket wrench (a set of common sizes. Metric: 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 17mm)

Cleaning/Lubrication Supplies

• Chain lube
• Gear/cog cleaning brush
• Light bike oil

• Clean rag (for clean up)
• Bike grease
• Hand cleaner

Common Spare Parts

• Spare tire
• Spare spokes
• Spare tube

• Replacement nuts/bolts
• Spare brake/derailleur cables
